Setting Goals…Stressful or Empowering?

Here it is February, the 2nd month of 2018.  Who made goals for the New Year? When was the last time you gave your goal some attention?  Or has the goal already found its way to the dark, back corner of the closet? Or perhaps you have given up on the whole all together believing it is for those other people.

Goals ignite the power within us to do great exciting things. They are the pathway to our greatest desires, dreams, and aspirations.  Goals transform us and  stretch us beyond what we thought was possible.

However, for many of us, setting goals have become the mundane to do lists.  We can hardly give ourselves permission for  outrageous goals and many become extinguished  by our current filters ( of beliefs, experiences, feelings, )and / or opinions from friends, family and those close to us.   This is enough fuel for  the monster like dark cloud to sabotage the whole thing.  We experience this  enough times we resist dreaming settling for the status quo because it is much to uncomfortable  to stretch that much.  And we end up convincing ourselves why bother it will never happen anyway.  If this is not you then perhaps you have witnessed this with someone you know?

For example the idea of having to start all over from square one finding a new job, or retooling, reinventing after years of patterns deeply pressed into our psyche, the foundation of who we are.  Or as simple as asking for a raise, stating our value, setting a boundary.  Best not to rock the boat…why fix what is not broken? This thinking completely sets the stage for low level goal aspiration.  No wonder when asked to set goals it falls on deaf ears.

The flip side of goal setting inspires us to do whatever it takes, we become fearless with a strong mind set to overcome all obstacles.  There is enough ammunition that fuels the need for change,to do or become something else….A situation, passion, desire is so ignited that you are unstoppable.  What would that look like  for you? How could you connect to that outcome to sustain you and carry you over the hurdles?

Often it is the WHY  attached to the goal. When we attach to a powerful and strong WHY it is the fuel for the goals.  What is your WHY? How does it support you? Did you think to craft a WHY? Where can you draw inspiration?

Certainly, we can reference many great inspirational stories and movies to this effect. Is there one that comes to mind for you?  Mine is “#A Beautiful Mind” starring #Russel Crow and all time favorite “#Alice Behind the Looking Glass” – (“tackle six impossible things before breakfast”).

It has taken some serious agility and mind strength training to embrace goal setting and reduce my stress response around the process.  For me goals are now the gateways to my manifesting my WHY.  Our WHY is the center of our  deepest desires. You do not need to know the hows.  You need to show up, ready, fully present, and declare yourself.  In this declaration is the commitment and ownership to become fully empowered over your own destiny, aspirations, dreams, life passion.   One of the elements in goal setting is to declare to others so that you can receive the support and line up  with the how to and receive the miracles along the way.  So today February 8th 2018 lets declare restating our goals: Share one of yours in the comment section below:

Here is one of mine: Cultivate a lifestyle that allows me to travel, partake in adventures, meet and be with people of diverse culture without the worry, anxiety. To stand in my full courage to claim my worth and value to earn the kind of money that provides the freedom to live fully.

Week 3 falling behind – dialogue brain vs nervous system

Don’t give up. Scale it down. Stay consistent. Get back to it.

What do you do?  Do you give up?  HELL NO!  YOU DOWN SIZE the time making a smaller chunk consistency is the mantra – This is about growing habit and taking action. and the reward is the results and ROI.  What is my ROI great content to build on  for something that I can EARN from the experiences. Look how much writing  I have been doing.  It doesn’t mater if it junk it is a starting place.  It is growing because of consistency A ONE STEP ACTION.  It grows incrementally ( grossly+/- could add up to 150 minutes a week). It doesn’t matter if I wrote 5 or 10 minutes and had to scale it down it all adds up and at the end of the month there is bound to be something  there that can be turned into GOLD.  Not only that but the habit building of 1 step action at a time rolls over into the rest of my work flow and productivity. I become that much more productive in less time across the board.  I could probably save a 2 weeks of work a year.

Yes the next step maybe to schedule the time in my work flow calendar. As if I didn’t think of that before. Too much pressure. I am still a little freedom fighter and battle up against lists, to dos time constraints.  Yes I have trained myself to use them, keep them because in the end they bring me more freedom and less chaos.  But there is a part of nervous system that has to digest and come to the idea on its own. It has to say I can do this without scheduling in.  My smarty brain says no schedule it in dumb ass.  Nervous system says: ” don’t tell me what to do, I can do it how I want”. Brain: “Ok dumb ass….don’t come crying to me when “I told you so”.  Brain “Stubborn bad ass when will she learn and just do it the easy way, she has to make it hard on herself, how long will she do this for?” Before she succumbs to making it a valuable enough to go in the work flow calendar?

Sure I had a few slip ups a few days without posting.  Life happens it gets in the way sort of it made me tired.  I didn’t want to.  Some feelings of guilt because I set up a challenge for myself all in and excited, so determined.  But the reality is things happen, have compassion for self. Get back up and make an adjust grow the mental strength and fortitude without hitting your head against the wall.  Without the self loathing because that gets you no where. Brain ” writing is valuable put in the work flow calendar, along with time for yoga, and Melt and passive brain fitness, meditation posting on FB group that you keep pushing off and filling the time conveniently with time wasters. ”  What are you waiting for?  Look at what you can engage in and how you would feel in your body if you took care of yourself in this way?

Still some resistance but making head way.  The brain is right in this instance.  The big question is why is not considered valuable enough?  Why is other people’s stuff more valued than mine.  Why do I leave myself out of the calendar? topic for another post…

Ok 20 minutes – i forgot to set the timer that is part of assignment.  Idiot – dumb ass – I won’t give up.  Back at it again tomorrow maybe in the calendar.
